District 2, Post 2 Vacancy to Be Filled Following Alsobrook's Mayoral Bid |
Residents of Conyers, Georgia, are set to participate in a special election to fill the City Council seat for District 2, Post 2, recently vacated by Connie Alsobrook.
Alsobrook resigned to pursue the mayoral position, leaving her council term, which was to conclude on December 31, 2026, incomplete.
Prospective candidates have a brief window to qualify for the special election, with the period spanning from September 3 to September 5.
During this time, they must submit the required documentation and pay a qualifying fee of $252 at City Hall, located at 901 O’Kelly Street.
The City Council formalized this special election and the condensed qualifying period by approving Resolution 759 in a special meeting held on August 27.
In addition to the special election, the upcoming general election will feature several key positions on the ballot:
Mayor (4-year term)
City Council, District 1 (4-year term)
City Council, District 2, Post 1 (4-year term)
City Council, District 2, Post 2 (special election for the unexpired term ending December 31, 2026)
While the initial qualifying period for the mayoral and two council seats occurred from August 18 to August 22, the city had not released the list of qualified candidates as of August 29.
However, some information has been provided to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
Conyers boasts a diverse electorate, with 10,641 registered voters, including 8,811 Black and 1,830 White voters, according to election officials.
Key dates for the upcoming elections are as follows:
Early Voting: October 14–31
Election Day: November 4, 2025
