City Manager Tony Lucas Steps Down, Leaving a Legacy of Dedication and Leadership |
Tony Lucas, a lifelong resident of Conyers, has announced his retirement after nearly four decades of dedicated public service.
Beginning his career in 1977 with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Lucas joined the Conyers Police Department in 1984, where he rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police.
In 2016, he assumed the role of City Manager, overseeing significant developments in the community.
Under Lucas's leadership, Conyers prepared to host events for the 1996 Olympic Games at the Georgia International Horse Park, implementing comprehensive security measures to ensure public safety.
His tenure is marked by a commitment to fostering partnerships and enhancing the city's reputation.
Reflecting on his career, Lucas stated, "I am most proud of the relationships and partnerships I’ve helped forge while at the city."
Mayor Vince Evans praised Lucas, noting, "Tony has been a rock-steady, guiding force we could count on with a wealth of knowledge about any number of things."
Lucas's retirement is effective May 31, 2024, and the city is in the process of selecting his successor.
His departure marks the end of an era for Conyers, as the community bids farewell to a leader whose impact will be felt for years to come. |
